What to Do If You Hit a Parked Car

If you are backing out of a parking space in Santa Monica and you bump into another vehicle, you may be nervous about what happens next. Not sure what to do if you hit a parked car? Eli’s Collision Repair has provided this helpful guide. Once everything is taken care of, we can help you repair any damage to your vehicle, including dent removal and fixing a scratched bumper.

I Hit a Parked Car. What Happens Next?

If you hit a parked car in Beverly Hills or Downtown LA, the first step is to remain at the scene of the collision. It is illegal to leave the scene of an accident. Park your vehicle in a safe area and notify the police as soon as possible:

  • Next, take photos of your vehicle and the other vehicle involved if possible. This can be useful evidence, and it is a way to document the license plate number of the other vehicle.
  • If the owner of the vehicle is not around at the time of the collision, it is best to wait for them to arrive if possible. If the vehicle’s owner does not arrive, leave a note on the windshield with details of the incident and your contact information.
  • Contact your insurance company. They will guide you through the claims process and discuss any potential changes to your insurance rates.

I Witnessed Someone Hit a Parked Car. What Should I Do?

What if you are not the driver who hit a parked car, but you witnessed the incident happen in Mid Wilshire? If the driver is still one the scene, see if they need assistance in reporting the accident. If the driver leaves the scene, wait around for the other driver if you can to let them know what happened and to help them document the damage. The information you provide can help them when they report the incident to the police and insurance company.
