How to File an Insurance Claim After a Car Accident

When you’re involved in a car accident, even a small one, it can be quite a stressful experience. You may be wondering about your next steps in navigating the car accident insurance claims process. We understand that it can be overwhelming for many Beverly Hills drivers, which is why we have created this guide that explains how to file an insurance claim after a car accident. That way, you can be prepared and ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible.

How Do Car Insurance Claims Work?

A car insurance claim is a request for financial compensation that a driver files with his or her insurance company if there are injuries or vehicle damage resulting from a collision. When and where to file the claim depends on your unique circumstances.

  1. Contact Your Insurance Provider – Let your insurance agent know about the accident as soon as possible. You will need to let them know which vehicle was involved, who was driving, where the accident took place, contact information for the other driver(s), and information from witnesses.
  2. File a Police Report – Filing a police report is highly recommended to ensure you are compensated appropriately.
  3. Wait for the Insurance Adjuster – An insurance adjuster will be assigned to you, and in most cases, you will be contacted for more information. This conversation helps to determine who is at fault, so you want to be as detailed as possible. The adjuster will also likely inspect the vehicle or have it inspected by a professional.
  4. Secure the Adjuster’s Report – Your insurance provider will take the report provided by the adjuster to determine how much they will pay on the claim.
  5. Accept the Payment – After the adjuster finalizes the payment, you will sign a release accepting the offer as payment in full for the claim.
